Also, we can definitely make this draft earlier.
One, we can start it next week, but we would have to really, really pick it up and name keepers and find new owners for those who don't really participate.
Two, we can start it imediately after the new year, but need keepers listed prior to Christmas.
We should be able to knock this out - with 10 round draft not needing to take that long as long as we post reasonably fast.

I think 23 keepers is too many, because it leads to teams looking the same.
I'll chime in with more thoughts later in the week... Can't begin to explain how complicated my life has been over the last 3 months or so.

Also, another note....regarding those players that are called up and not listed on our minor league roster.
We need to clarify this rule before we head into the season. I believe last year, if a player was brought up and wasn't on someone's minor league keeper list or on their major league roster - we gave them a "gentlemen's time frame" of like a week or so to allow them to make changes. If not then they were open for pickup.
I believe that's how it happened last year.

I still think that we should modify the rule to be consistent with Major League Baseball's definition of a Rookie.
The rule could be stated as follows:
Going into a new season, any prospect/player that has already exceeded the Major League definitions of a Rookie must be protected on a franchise's Major League preseason keeper roster. Failure to do so, results in the player becoming subject to the preseason draft and/or eventual waiver wire / free agency acquisition. The stated minimums for such players are 130 At-Bats or 50 Innings Pitched.
Players who have not exceeded these milestones through the previous season, may be protected on a franchise's minor league keeper roster for the current season. Eligibility for continued minor league roster protection is evaluated on a year-to-year basis.
A player who has surpassed the aforementioned at-bats or innings pitched during a current season does not need to be added to the major league roster upon reaching the milestone, but must be added to the major league roster in the subsequent season to avoid forfeiting the player's rights.

We'll just go by RULE 7b.......for any player.
Whether the player started the season on the roster or is called up at some other point during the season - the player will have to attain Rule 7b to be eligible to be picked up by another team (if not any the current team's minor league keeper list or major league roster)
That sounds fair enough and will make it fluid for all accounts of tracking the players status.

The rule changes look great to me.
I can start the draft before or after Christmas, but would prefer before Christmas so that it doesn't coincide with the Fix League draft.

Let's try and get our keepers posted ASAP so we can try and get this draft moving before Christmas.
I think we may need to find one or two owners......I know one for sure.
So if you know of any active owners you'd like to invite that is active in another league, please let me know. Thanks.

Brian, have you tried Richie Allen? I don't know if he'd want to take on another league, but he's a good, active owner.

I'll PM and see.
I posted a new thread on the scoreboards forum.....we'll see how that goes.
Richie does a good job. There's a few others we play with in other leagues I think would be good fits, but time wise I don't know.

Brian, can you clarify the first part of #8, please. If no one were to draft P. Byrd, he would belong to Winker ??

Let's start the draft ASAP. No reason to wait. The hot stove has me fired up to start discussing and drafting my team for '08....

PS. Where's the listing at the start of this thread for "regular season champ"?!? LOL, I need some love even if my boys failed to get 'em done in the playoffs. ;D

Brian, can you clarify the first part of #8, please. If no one were to draft P. Byrd, he would belong to Winker ?? This is referring to prospects - not current major leaguers ala Paul Byrd. It's saying when we have our minor league draft - whoever is not drafted in the minor league draft will be left to that team For example the Pirates are not one of our teams in the league. So when we do the minor league draft, their minor leaguers are eligible to be chosen from. Whoever is not drafted from that organization will stay there until 1. they are called up, which then they go thru waivers or 2. they are eligible to be drafted again next year in the drafts. I'll edit and clarify it Rule 8.....
