7b. If a prospect was brought up the previous season and starts the new season on the major league roster and had less than, or equal to, 1.) 130 at-bats 2.) 50 innings pitched 3.) 30 appearances the previous season, then he does not have to be added to the following season's roster right away. But if the prospect does exceed any of those outlined, then he must be added to the major league roster within the first 8 days of the season.............
7c. If the promoted prospect is placed on the major league roster, the only way to put him back onto the Taxi Squad, is if he is sent down by his major league team - which goes for all players.
Perez appeared in 41 games in 2008 and was on the final roster as recorded by yahoo. Same as the Cueto situation.

Based on the rules, Chris Perez should be property of the Rays.

To help clarify, the "spirit of the rule" is to guide us on what to do with players who start a year on an opening day roster and eclipsed the thresholds in a previous season.
Perez did not start 2008 on the Opening Day roster of the real Cardinals, nor did he have greater than 30 Appearances or 50 Innings in 2007. As long as Todd kept him on his minors roster the whole time, none of the following matter: 1.) He eclipsed those thresholds in 2008 2.) He was brought up by the real Cardinals during 2008 3.) Finished 2008 on the real Cardinals roster
If Todd brought him up... then sent him back down to his minors roster and never brought him back up to end the season, then I think he loses him? I know this is very confusing, but I think what I've said above captures the intent of the rule.
However, if Todd actually had him on his final Yahoo roster (which of course is different than the real Cardinals roster) and left him unprotected, that's a different matter altogether.

Chris Perez is absolutely NOT available.
He did NOT finish the year on my roster. I checked that. And if you are seeing that now it is an error. He was absolutely not on my final roster as I never recalled him once he was sent down during the season as I didn't want to expose him.
He was sent back down to the minors. Because he had options left I returned him to my minor league reserve list.
Same situation with Josh Fields.
Both are protected under our rules.

If you go to the your fantasy sports profile.....and check the CSC league last year and click on the 'final rosters'.....which are done on the last day of the league....Chris Perez is listed on the Cardinals roster.....I downloaded the roster from yahoo like about 4 weeks or so later after the season had ended.

Freaking bizarre. I downloaded end of year rosters and Perez was not on that spreadsheet. But now I look at Yahoo and it says he was on my roster. WTF???
I certainly would have kept him over a setup guy like Putz. Damn it something's screwy. As Vince Lombardi would say, "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AROUND HERE?"

I don't know what's going on with regards to season end rosters but I can tell all of you that I made the trade with Canes (giving up my 5th rd draft pick in this draft) solely because I knew I had Perez on my reserve list and that he'd need to be activated this season (2009). Because I knew I'd have that sure thing MLB player to activate from my 20-man reserve list, I gave up a draft pick without getting one back in return.
Perez was a reserve list player I called up during the year, but when the real MLB Cardinals sent him back to the minors during the season (with options) I did the same and returned him for the year to my reserve list per our rules.
Maybe I had yet another brain fart and did this without remembering. If so, fine. But I downloaded all the rosters right after the season ended and Perez is not in that spreadsheet. I can't figure out what happened here but I'm tired of being the CSC League Draft "Drama Queen" already and we're only in the 2nd round. God, my head hurts.
PS. Much like Berkman there's no way I'd have kept guys like Frank Francisco or JJ Putz over Chris Perez if I thought I'd needed to protect Perez on my keeper list. But whatever, I just can't figure out what's going on here unless somebody is messing with me, and that makes no sense either.

TFAZ, if a player is on your reserve list he does not have to be added to your carryover 20 until after the season starts (we have been inconsistent but typically we've given owners several weeks to decide which players to release and which to add to their 30-man roster with a requisite "drop" if that "add" would put you over the 30-man limit. Jed Lowrie is a perfect example of this on your roster. So I did not have to protect Perez even though he'd surpassed "rookie" metrics because he was legally on my 20-man reserve protected rookie list at the end of last season. Only after the first few weeks would I need to make a move on Perez. My obvious plan was to activate Perez as my 30th player since I only have 9 draft picks in this year's major league draft (i.e. the one going on right now). I traded my 5th rd pick to Canes since I knew I'd have good player(s) that I'd need to activate from my 20-man protected rookie roster.

BUT if you added him to your majors roster (which the Yahoo evidence suggests) then it is completely different. Lowrie, Brandon Wood, Steven Pearce, and some others on my list were not on their teams' Opening Day rosters AND I never called them up. Whoever is on your final roster at the end of the season becomes the basis on which you decide your Keepers.

The guy is either on your reserve list legally or he is not.
Perez was sent BACK down to the minors. Our league rules state a player can be returned to rookie reserve list if he is still rookie eligible AND has options left. Perez had options left and at the time he was sent down by the St. Louis Cardinals MLB team he was still rookie eligible per our rules. So he legally was BACK on my 20-player rookie reserve protected list.
Explain how that is any different per our rules. The outcome is the same. The player is on the rookie list and should not have to be acted upon (i.e. called up) until a few weeks into this MLB season.

It is different, because you still kept him on your majors roster (as evidenced by Yahoo) and he finished the season there! You gained statistically by his presence until the end... He was subject to Keeper / Unprotected decision making. You clearly didn't do the proper "clean up" on your Minors roster to keep things consistent.

WVTF, anybody else you'd like from my minor league system. Just let me know. Todd, Would Matt Wieters and Chris Tillman be asking too much? I'm not too greedy, you can give Motte to Geek. Sorry, Todd. Just having a bit of fun with you. Although you must admit you were crying about as bad as I was when I couldn't find Wieters in Bay Bridge League. ;D

We have a trade...
TFAZ receives: Cardinals 4th rd minor league pick (Rd. 4.1) Cardinals 9th rd major league pick (Rd. 9.12)
Osborne receives: Red Sox 5th rd major league pick Jed Lowrie (from TFAZ's minor league system)
Todd to confirm.
