The Beantown Red Sawks select:
Kila Ka'aihue, 1B, Royals
Might have stumbled upon a gem here... He definitely has been playing in "hitters leagues" this year (Texas League and PCL), but his 2008 stats are:
AB = 335 HR = 33 RBI = 91 AVG = .322 OPS = 1.116
Previous seasons haven't indicated this production AVG-wise, but the power has been there... We shall see!

Quick Question?
What happens if a draft pick like Aaron Crow doesnt sign with the Nationals and is drafted next year by the Mets. Would the D'Rays the team that drafted him in this league's draft this year lose the rights to Crow or are the Mets (This League) screwed out of a pick?

Usually we've had the Minors draft before the June amateur draft to avoid this situation.

Jim, when he flames out, maybe he'll let you stay with his family on the next Elco vacation to Hawaii?!? In the spirit of Aloha, he should reward you in some way for your trust and good faith....

PS. Before making my pick can we agree that if you pick a player, whether he's signed yet or not, that he's yours to keep even if later on he's redrafted by another MLB team? I think that would make the whole process a lot more simple. Haggs care to take a stab at this one? Thanks! If not, then I need to do a bit more research. But I still will make my pick very soon.

Usually we've had the Minors draft before the June amateur draft to avoid this situation. What!?!? Best I can remember (which isn't much some days) we've always had our draft after the June draft. That's how we knew who was available. Did I misunderstand your meaning? Another question I have is can we draft undrafted players, high school seniors or college underclassmen? I have an idea that may be a solution to Zems question and possible problem of my question. Any player drafted in this leagues minor draft and doesn't sign and or is drafted by a franchise team(mlb) later, remains property of original CSC team that drafted player. To compensate for the lost player drafting team will send the equal round draft pick of their franchie to other team. Example if Aaron Crow did not sign this year and was drafted by the Mets next year #1 pick. I would send the Rays next year #1 pick or the rights to Crow. This may sound confusing but, hey, I understand it? Other thoughts. Edit: I'm thinking like Todd, what do they say about like minds he's just quicker them I am. Really his post was there when I started mine. I just can't type.

That's how we knew who was available. Did I misunderstand your meaning? Looking back at the other threads, we've had no consistency on this. Our 2006 minors draft was in April (before the June draft) and our 2007 minors draft was in July (after the June draft). From my perspective, I'm not about to draft a guy that I know hasn't signed and I have no clue how he's progressing through the minors. The deepest I'm willing to dig is a blue-chipper who was a high pick the previous year and is in High A Ball. Not very interested in maintaining a college underclassmen who may not get to the bigs for another 6-7 years. I'd want somebody who is already producing some minors stats by the time we draft. Considering the new rule in MLB where June picks must sign by August deadline (just passed?), maybe our draft should be in August every year from now on, so that we know who has signed?
