It seems that if we combine this thought with the whole 200 ABs / 60 IPs rule (or whatever threshold you decide), that we can have a workable solution. So, I could shuttle Hansen back and forth between my Major League and Minor League rosters UNTIL the point where he reaches his Innings Pitched threshold.
This will get us away from protecting guys like Rick Ankiel or Jack Cust or Jason Dubois or whatever who have passed the threshold, but still haven't figured out how to put things all together and stick on a Major League roster.
Sound good? If so, let us know what threshold seems fair for the Minor Leaguers.

I say any one drafted in the major league draft must be protected on the 30 man roster. As with any one drafted in the minor league portion be kept on that protected list. Cut and dry, right to the point. He gets drafted in the major league, he then needs to be kept on that roster or his rights are lost. Same as the minor league portion. Good luck to all.

I think Haggstown had already decided that part, Canes. But, it is good that you drove the point home... Examples of players that must be kept on Major League rosters (or face being lost) are: - Justin Verlander, SP, Tigers (drafted by Indians) - Stephen Drew, SS, DBacks (drafted by Red Sox) - Ryan Zimmerman (drafted by ) These players were all selected because they are expected to make an impact in 2006. Players that won't break into the bigs until 2008 or so are very unlikely to be drafted in the Major League draft. I'm just trying to make sure I fully understand what happens to our 20 Minor League guys once they get to the Majors in real life, including top prospects from our own systems (such Craig Hansen or Jon Lester on my team)... It gets really complicated for our system once they start getting optioned up and down between MLB and AAA.

Thanks, where is everyone? My thoughts, Which my wife says adds up to nothing are, You have your 20 man minor league protected list, anyone called up could be replaced with another minor league player not protected. Once the player (who was called up) is sent back down you would then have to make room on your 20 man minor league list for him by cutting someone.

fantasygeek is usually online, I'm surprised he hasn't stopped by...
I think we're saying close to the same thing on the capability to protect prospects on Major / Minor league rosters, but that the rule applies to:
1.) Prospects from our own system 2.) Prospects drafted in the Minor League draft
The same protections would not apply to prospects drafted in the Major League draft.

There's a lot of minor leaguers to keep track of, and to have the time to keep track of them all and make sure each team keeps to that rule, would be a headache and time I don't want.
I'd rather just go by how it is now, where you don't have to protect guys chosen in the previous draft, but all others are subject to protection - in your own organization.

If a minor league guy is drafted in our major league draft - he has to be kept on the major league roster, whether or not he is on the major league squad.
If a minor league guy is brought up, you have to make room for him. If he is sent down, you can then put him back on your protected list.

As an Indians fan, I take offense to Winker's stripping of the Tribe farm system.
He's operating much like George Steinbrenner and I find it to be fiscally irresponsible, morally questionable, and existentially refutable. Not to mention the fact that it damages the integrity of the CSC Franchise Keeper League and the CSC Minor Leagues as we know them...
