OK, I would also vote 18... Sorry I've been AWOL. Busy times in the TFAZ household.

TFAZ, did you say that you would have someone active to take over for my brother's team - someone that will be around often?
We do need someone for his team. He told me a couple of days ago that he is not going to be able to give time to it like he would need to.
The other two teams that need some attention are WVTF and Osbourne's teams - I believe those are the two. I've sent them numerous emails about getting their minor league stuff squared away and update stuff here. They've replied they would but haven't. That's why this has taken so long to get going - trying to give enough time to people in other drafts and to get stuff taken care of on here.
But we need to get moving. If they aren't able to get things updated/done by Saturday night - then we need two more other owners as well. A couple of people have let me know they would be interested.

What constitutes a player staying on the minor league roster or being placed on the big league roster?
This may make a big difference with our keepers.

I'll answer this to the best of my ability tonight and Haggstown can comment as he sees fit...
I think our Minor Leaguers from last year's minor league roster (excluding guys like Upton) are exempt from this process. We pick our 18-man Major League Keeper list from our end-of-season roster from 2006. We will also have a keeper list from our 20-man Minor League roster (I think the discussed # was 15). Our 18-man Major League Keeper and 15-man Minor League Keeper lists are strictly for the purposes of our Major & Minor League drafts. Ultimately, any Minor Leaguer who makes his squad's final Opening Day roster MUST BE added to our eventual 30-man rosters in Yahoo, or he may be lost...

Where would a guy like Jonathan Broxton fall? Big league keeper or minor league roster?

If he was on your Minor League roster all of last year (i.e., NEVER added to your Big League roster since he wasn't on the 2006 Opening Day Dodgers roster), then he doesn't need to be protected among your Major League Keepers but would have to be protected in your Minor League Keepers.
However, if you added him to your 30-man Major League roster at any point in the 2006 season, then I am pretty sure he must be protected prior to our Major League draft. Haggstown will correct me on anything that I mis-state.
It is important to note, however, that if Broxton MAKES the Dodgers Opening Day roster, then I think he must be added to your 30-man roster that gets posted into Yahoo by Haggstown.

Thanks for the input. This definitely needs to be answered before we declare our keepers.
It's 1 thing to take a guy like Broxton over a pick in the final 2-3 rounds. It's quite another to have to protect him as 1 of my 18 keepers, rather than risk someone else taking him in the draft.

TFAZ is correct in what he is saying..............The only hinge is who opens up on Opening Day rosters, i.e. minor leaguers and how to go about this.
I don't believe this was ever stated in the rules - as I guess it never really got thought of - but I believe I told fantasygeek (wahoo) that if a minor leaguer opens up on a roster on opening day, then we may or may not have to put him on the roster - I can't remember.
For now, we do not have to include the minor leaguers who were not on our final roster at the end of last year to be included in the 18 keepers - if they are on our minor league roster. However, I do think that once the draft is done with and we find that there are some minor leaguers who open up on the Major League Opening Day Roster, then we should add them to ours and would then have to drop someone off the inputed yahoo roster.
But for now, we just have to worry about the final roster we had at the end of last year..........

Makes sense to me, Haggs... The final question for you is... How many Minor League Keepers did we decide on? 14? 15?
14 might be good, since we would then have an even number of rounds.

It was either 14 or 16 keepers. I want to say it was 16 keepers and we would have a 4 round draft. The first year was a 6 round draft to get things started.
And every year now, it will be a 4 round draft. I believe that is how I wanted to lay it out. I'll have to go back and check.

Canes had a question about who's left over.
Well, I could try and load the keeper rosters into yahoo once everyone gets their keepers done - so everyone can see who the free agents are. But the question then becomes, how to incorporate the finalized rosters into them. That may take some work.

Just an FYI, BrownieInHB will be taking over my brother's team - the White Sox.
I've yet to see anything from WVTF and Osbourne - so we may need two more owners........

In the other league i am in (Nocks) the rosters were put into yahoo and then we or the commish would go and pick up the player we drafted, like a free agent pick up. We used the yahoo message board on the league site to post the picks, It would show all free agents and as long as you pick the player in order, then the teams would fill out correctly. Nock would know more about this though.
